What events will you be participating in this HTOC Season? 

I participated in Jest, Madrigals, and Myrrh this past December, New Media Opera this past March, and I will be portraying Zita (La Vecchia) in Gianni Schicchi this summer!

 

Where have you trained/what is your singing background?

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Flute Performance from Luther College and a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Northern Arizona University. I have also participated in a Young Artist Program with Nightingale Opera Theatre in Ohio.

 

What is one of your favorite roles you have performed and why?

Vivienne Kensington in Legally Blonde is the obvious favorite for me! The production team, the actors, the pit; everything about that show was outstanding and it was so fun to be an antagonist for once.

 

What are some of your favorite arias, musical theatre ballads, or art songs to sing? 

Favorite aria to sing is Things Change, Jo from Little Women. Favorite musical theatre ballad to sing is Enlightenment from Starry, and my favorite art song to sing is La regata veneziana by Rossini.

 

What led you to become a singer? 

I only started taking voice lessons my junior year of college and I found that I really really liked it! So I decided to audition for grad schools on voice and long story short, here I am! 

 

What is your dream role or show?

My dream role in an opera is Diana in Jake Heggie’s If I Were You, but my dream role in musical theatre, as stereotypical as it might be, is Christine in Phantom of the Opera. 

 

What are you most excited for about the 2024-25 Hometown Opera Company season?

I cannot wait for Gianni Schicchi! It will be Rochester, MN’s first full-staged opera and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of it. 

 

Would you share a shout-out to an influential person in your life and/or singing career?

The late Dr. Joan deAlbuquerque, my band director in college, instilled the importance of love through music in me. She was a phenomenal woman and I feel her presence in every performance. 

 

What else would you like people to know about you?

I am an odd duck - I don’t like many desserts! I dislike ice cream, fudge, brownies, cake, cupcakes, pie, cheesecake, and pretty much any standard dessert. I love a good donut, though!
