About Us
Hometown Opera Company was founded in late 2022 by a group of classically trained singers determined to bring high-quality opera to Southeastern Minnesota. What began as a single concert of arias quickly evolved into a thriving, artist-led nonprofit committed to making opera accessible, relevant, and rooted in the local community.
We create performances that celebrate both musical excellence and bold imagination—whether transforming historic spaces into immersive theatrical experiences or partnering with schools, museums, and civic organizations to connect with new audiences. Our work spans everything from fully staged operas and themed concerts to educational workshops and collaborative productions with local composers and visual artists.
Driven by a belief that opera should be both artistically rigorous and joyfully human, we support our performers with the resources they need to succeed—encouraging thoughtful preparation, healthy technique, and stylistic integrity. At the same time, we embrace creativity and risk-taking, empowering artists to experiment, connect, and grow.
Now entering our third season, we are proud to serve Southeastern Minnesota not just as a performance company, but as a community of artists and educators shaping the future of opera—together.
Mission Statement

As an organization, we aim to shape the future of opera by fostering fresh and diverse audiences and empowering a creative group of artists to present, develop, and progress opera
